It’s Tuesday again boys and girls. And you know what that means… another episode recap of The Sing Off! Yay!! You are so excited, I know. This week was, ugh, Hip-Hop week… That’s right… I said a hip, hop, a hippy, a hippy to the hip, hip hop and you don’t stop… Anyway, let’s get right down to it…
Four groups perform, one is placed in the bottom of the group, four more groups perform and another falls to the bottom. Those bottom two have to battle it out to see who will live to sing another day… Drama…
First group of four are up… Here we go!
Dartmouth Aires – “Club Can’t Handle Me” – Never heard this song I have to say… and I can’t handle this group’s loudness! Seriously. Dynamics boys (or should it be boyz tonight?)… dy-nam-ics! I just don’t like this performance that much. Oh wait… there was different dynamic other than ffff…. finally… I’m just a little bored right now with this song… Oh, it’s time for me to go take my pie out of the oven…
Afro-Blue – “Killing Me Softly” – Love, love, love this song… and love this group so I hope they sing their faces off! Smooth… I love their chords and harmonies. And they’ve got a nice beat box and groove thing going on. Well done!
The Collective – “Givin’ me Everything” – I hate this song. I mean, the actual original song, not necessarily this group’s rendition of the song… we’ll have to see if I hate that or not. I think they’re doing ok. it just seems a bit, I don’t know… disjointed. That’s the only word my little brain can come up with. I’m not thrilled with this performance. Maybe I’m just prejudiced against this song.. maybe not… Their tempo was a bit chaotic at times I felt.
Vocal Point – “I’ll Be Missing You” – Ok, the opening story about Ben singing this to his father who just passed away is seriously going to make me cry. Nice rhythm section going on. I like this kid Ben’s voice. But, I hear some pitch issues in the group. Oh, nice little add in of a hymn right there boys! Very, very emotional song. I just wish that they had sounded a bit better over all. But that Ben kid is crying now that they’re done… and now I’m crying… excuse me a minute…
Ok, I think The Collective will be in the bottom of this group. Or Vocal Point… I don’t know for sure… It’s The Collective… See, I told you so.
Second group of four
Urban Method – “Airplanes” – Nice. But I’m just not feeling it. I’m not impressed. It’s just OK and I don’t really know why I think that. It just didn’t hook me in or anything, maybe because it was too close to sounding like the original… maybe? Solid performance, just not interesting enough for me.
Pentatonix - “Love Lock Down” – Heck. Yeah. I’m actually excited to hear this cong. Nice opening. Sweet bass. This is an interesting arrangement. I’m actually wanting them to speed the song up a bit though. I think they waited too long to get the groove really going. But the judges don’t think so… Oh, what do they know!
Delilah – “How to Love” – interesting. A “pretty” hiphop song… that seems like an oxy-moron… It sounds a little bit pitchy, I think. But pretty chord there at the end. I liked the performance and thought it was really interesting how they arranged it, but I wasn’t overly wowed…
Yellow Jackets – “The Show Goes On” – Nice rap job kid. This group always gives such fun performances. And tonight is no exception. But… that’s all it was… fun. Nothing horribly impressive.
And the other group to join the bottom two will be… I’m going to go with Yellow Jackets because the judges seemed to just love the other three groups… and I’m right…
Now comes the “Sing Off Battle” oh… scary. Both groups will perform their own version of “Just a Dream”… Let’s get this party started!
The Collective- Pitchy. But that Ruby sure can sing! Not an interesting arrangement to me.
Yellow Jackets – Pretty chords. Nice. I like their arrangement. They’re doing some pretty fun things with this song!
And who is going home? I’m going to vote that The Collective goes home. If they base the winner of the battle purely on which group sang the song better, Yellow Jackets have to win.
Shawn votes for Yellow Jackets to stay.
Ben votes for The Collective to stay (what are you thinking Ben? Really? We are so not friends anymore)
And the tie breaker, cutie patootie, Sarah votes for… Yellow Jackets. Which is the right choice in my humblest of humble opinions.
That’s all for tonight folks! Not my favorite week so far. I kind of got a bit bored… but then again, I’m not a hip-hop fan and so I didn’t know and/or like most of the songs tonight! Oh well! Next week should be fun! Super star medleys!
